Di had been warned-more than once in fact-that Jetta might not ever be able to compete. She understood the concept of abuse. She understood rescue programs-hell she spent every summer knee deep in pony politics thanks to her Aunt.

She never would have guessed that it was the mare's -scars- that would cause issue.

After all, she wasn't sored-and the scars weren't even on her legs!-even her funky little j-tail was natural. Jetta was safe, sane, and sound now, and she might not have perfect form, but they were having -fun- damn it, and the little mare deserved to be happy.

The judges had accepted their documentation alongside their entry fee, and that should have been it, but apparently no vet letter would stop those sideways looks or dark mutters. Even horsemen had their cliques and cutting judgments.

For her mare's sake, and Wildwind's good name, the young woman could feel her blood boiling in her veins. It just wasn't fair! She bit back on her smart ass retorts (happily inherited from Aunt Rachael along with Horse Fever) by force of will alone.

It already felt like everyone's eyes were honed in on her back, and it would only get worse when she settled her habit in place. Now they'd really have to shine out there.
